Jim Schwartz is the new Detroit Lions Coach
Yesterday the Detroit Lions hired Jim Schwartz as their head coach. Schwartz was the defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans for the past ten years or so. He started as a scout in Cleveland, became their assistant and transferred with their team when they moved to Baltimore.
Friend and head-coach of the Titans Jeff Fisher said that the Lions made the right decision in hiring Jim. He explained that Jim had everything it took to be a head coach in the NFL. Some things to know about the head-coach:
-He loves to play Chess.
-Jevon Kearse said he’s always on the computer looking at stats, player tendencies, team tendencies.
-His 2003 defense ranked first in the NFL in rushing defense and led the league in third down defense at 27.7 percent—the lowest since the 1998 Oakland Raiders. The Titans ranked in the top seven in yards allowed each of the past two seasons and finished second in points allowed per game at 14.6 in 2008.
I am not a Lions fan but I do hope this works out for them because I am from Michigan and I think the fans have suffered long enough. The way everyone is talking it looks the best decision anyone could have made. I really hope this guy turns it around and gives people something to hope for. I’ll be curious what impact he will have who Detroit drafts and what kind of acquisitions they get. Maybe they could be the next Miami Dolphins. I guess we will just have wait and see!
