Is Bobby Cox Retiring?
Yesterday it was reported on various outlets that Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox will not commit to returning to the Braves in the 2010 season. One has to wonder if he will finally decided to retire. He is 68 years old and has been around the game of baseball since 1968. He only played for two full season with Yankees in 1968 and 1969. He is most noted for his managing stints with the Atlanta Braves (1978–1981, Toronto Blue Jays (1982–1985) and back to the Atlanta Braves (1990–present). His career highlights include:
-1995 World Series champion
-1985 AL Manager of the Year
-Three time NL Manager of the Year (1991, 2004, 2005)
He also has the most ejections of all time as a manager which says a lot of how he has stood up for his players over the years. He really has never had a temper but when he has gotten angry it’s something thats been remembered. If does retire he will be the fourth on the all time wins last as a manager only behind Connie Mack, John McGraw, and Tony La Russa who is still coaching today with the St. Louis Cardinals. Cox has managed some great teams and some great players in time as a manager and there is no doubt that he is future member of the baseball Hall of Fame. If this is his last go around then I say congratulations on a wonderful career. If he continues to keep managing then by all means give the Braves fans some more memories. The season is almost over so stay tuned to see if Bobby Cox decided to retire.
