Decade of Smackdown was Electrifying
Tonight on Smackdown was the Decade Celebration of Smackdown. I really enjoyed the whole show and that does not happen very often for me anymore. It was one of the best shows on TV in a long time. The opening match between Kane and Batista was rock solid and couldn’t get any better for two big men. There is one point in the show I got a little teary eyed. It was when the showed the emotional tribute to the late Eddie Guerrero. Eddie was a huge part of what Smackdown is all about and a huge part of that shows history. It’s been almost four years since his passing and his presence is still being felt.
The backstage segments tonight were totally awesome. Michael Cole getting drunk was hilarious especially when puked all over Chris Jericho. Jericho wanted to puke and the Big Show actually ran off and did puke. I also enjoyed watching Zack Ryder get shafted and not being allowed in MVP’s V.I.P. lounge. Also what the hell was up with Yoshi Tatsu and Kung Fu Naki sing “Sexy Boy,” which is the theme of Shawn Michaels. The match between Miz/Ziggler and Morrison/Kingston was really great. I loved how they had Morrison and Miz start the match. They were once a great tag team, possibly one of the best that have come around in the last decade. It is really great to see both of their singles career take off.
Finally The Rock has reappeared on WWE Television. The Rock was in rare form tonight but was it really from his heart? Not so long ago Dwayne Johnson did not want to be known as The Rock and wanted nothing do with wrestling. It is no secret that current WWE Champion John Cena has called The Rock on numerous occasions. He feels if The Rock loves wrestling as much as he say he would come back every once in a while and wrestle a match or two. The Rock also hinted and teased that he might be a guest host on Monday Night Raw. He keeps teasing things like this and never follows up on them. The fans in a lot of ways have moved on and forgotten about him. I would welcome The Rock back if he came back. He is good for wrestling and made a huge impact on the industry. We shall see what he does in the future.
The eight man tag was totally off the hook tonight. It was CM Punk/Randy Orton/Legacy vs. Undertaker/John Cena/DX. The match was about 25 minutes long which is a good lengthy match for TV. I loved all the elements of this match including the Undertaker and Shawn Michaels staring each other down after Undertaker blind tagged Shawn Michaels. It gave me goosebumps reminding me of the match they had Wrestlemania 25 six months ago. It was a great celebration at the end of the show when Cena, Michaels, Triple and Undertaker were in the ring. What a good way to close out the show.
There is only one thing that bothered me about the show and that is they should have let Mysterio come back from his suspension early because he has been a huge part of Smackdown. They also should brought in JBL and brought Edge back because they too have made huge contributions to the show. Other then that the show was great. I am going to rate 8 out of 10. I felt it was that good. Granted it only had four matches but they were all solid and the backstage segments were priceless as well. Hopefully WWE will continue to Layeth the Smackdown for many more Friday Nights to come.
