Lashley and Walker Highlight Strikeforce: Miami
Tonight I had the opportunity to watch Strikeforce on Showtime. It was definitely interesting to say the least. I agree with the guys that I was watching it with, Strikeforce is not on the same level that UFC is on. Here are the results for Strikeforce Miami.
Welterweight Championship bout: Nick Diaz vs. Lithuania Marius Žaromskis
Diaz defeated Žaromskis via TKO (strikes) at 4:38 of round 1.
Women’s Featherweight Championship bout: Cristiane Santos vs. Marloes Coenen
Santos defeated Coenen via TKO (strikes) at 3:40 of round 3.
Heavyweight bout: Herschel Walker vs. Greg Nagy
Walker defeated Nagy via TKO (strikes) at 2:17 of round 3.
Middleweight bout: Melvin Manhoef vs. Robbie Lawler
Lawler defeated Manhoef via KO (punch) at 3:33 of round 1.
Heavyweight bout: Bobby Lashley vs. Wes Sims
Lashley defeated Sims via TKO (strikes) at 2:06 of round 1.
I was really impressed with Herschel Walker in his MMA debut. He looked pretty good for 47 years old. I’d also like to add that Bobby Lashley is a beast but he needs to fight some better opponents to see how good he really is. Robbie Lawler and Nick Diaz also looked good. Like I said it was very enjoyable to watch but Strikeforce will never be on the same level as the UFC. The next Strikeforce event is April 17, 2010 on CBS. The tentative card looks like this:
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Fabricio Werdum
Dan Henderson vs. Jake Shields for the Middleweight Championship.
There are a couple of more fights in the works but these two fights are almost all but confirmed. Stay tuned for more on Strikeforce.
Herschel Walker is still an amazing athlete even as he is reaching 50, but he obviously cant compete against the top-tier MMA fighters.
