Shogun Wins Light Heavyweight Title at UFC 113
Last night was a crazy night in the UFC. The Light Heavyweight Championship bout between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Rua did not go as I and many others expected. The last time they fought they went all five rounds but this time it was different. Shogun TKO’d Machida in the first round to become the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.
The other fight that took me by surprise was Kimbo Slice verus Matt Mitrione. Mitrione just manhandled Kimbo Slick and beat him by TKO in the 2nd round. At the post fight press conference Dana White said that Kimbo would be cut from the UFC.
My favorite fight of the night was Josh Koscheck versus Paul Daley. There was so much trash talking before during and after this fight it was just ridiculious. Koscheck dominated Daley and beat him by unanimous decision. With this win Koscheck will now coach the next season of the Ultimate Fighter and face Georges St. Pierre for the Welterweight Title. The real story is what happened after the fight. Daley sucker punched Koscheck and gouged him in the eye. Koscheck then got on the mic and talked trashed to the Montreal fans. It was announced that Paul Daley was cut from UFC at the post-fight press conference.
The other two fights were Patrick Côté versus Alan Belcher and Sam Stout versus Jeremy Stephens. Both fights were excellent and I can’t really complain about any of the fights on the card. They also showed an preliminary fight between Joe Doerksen and Tom Lawlor which ended in submission by Doerksen.
Next up is UFC 114, which will feature Quinton Jackson versus Rashad Evans. I for one cannot wait. I think this will be fight of the year. Stay tuned for more on UFC 114.
