Results, Recap, Review of WWE Money in the Bank 2017

Tonight(Sunday) was the annual Money in the Bank Pay Per View extravaganza. Going into this show I had a lot of questions about what might go down. How would the show do without featuring both brands? Who was going to win the first ever Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match? Who would capture the briefcase and cash in to become to WWE Champion? And how much heat Jinder Mahal would get in Randy Orton’s hometown? All these questions were answered but before I begin with those answers here are the results of tonight’s show:

-Preshow Match: The Hype Bros defeated The Colons
-Carmella wins the Money in the Bank Ladder Match
-The New Day defeated The Uso’s by count-out (Uso’s retain tag titles)
-Naomi defeated Lana to retain the Smackdown Women’s Championship
-Jinder Mahal defeated Randy Orton to retain the WWE Championship
-Breezango defeated The Ascension
-Baron Corbin wins the Money in the Bank Ladder Match

The opening match was the first over Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder match. I was really impressed with the physicality of the women and that they brought it all out tonight. I absolutely love how they left everything in the ring and I love they had James Ellsworth decide the outcome because now there is going to be a ton of controversy.  I have a feeling this going to setup Ellsworth against one of the women which be pretty entertaining. The historical match up was followed up by the historical longest reigning WWE Tag Team Champions in history. The New Day took on the Uso’s for the Smackdown Live Tag Titles. This match was also extremely physical and full of emotion because it was The New Day’s first Smackdown Live match. There some key spots that were poorly executed.  I personally didn’t care for how the first two matches didn’t end in a clean decision. That’s not a very good way to start a very key pay-per-view.

It was interesting to see the Women’s Title match so close after the Ladder match took place. I was curious to see how Lana was going to do in her first live match and on a pay-per-view nonetheless. I think Lana did okay. I am not going to sit here and say she did horrible or great. I am completely indifferent about this match because it was the third match in a row that did not end completely clean because of Carmella coming out and distracting both competitors. Before I lost my cool with this pay-per-view I was delighted to see Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis show up in a weird creepy way. It was also great to see Greg Gagne, Larry Hennig, Baron Von Raske, Sgt. Slaughter, Bob Orton Jr., and Ric Flair all in the front row for the WWE Championship Match between Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal. I love how they made use of the legends with having Jinder being thrown into them and using some of their moves. The Singh Brothers interfered and got physical with Cowboy Bob so hindsight this was another match that did not end cleanly. I don’t know who got lazy and booked tonight’s show but it was absolute laziness by the writers, the agents and the production team.

The highlight for me tonight was “The Fashion Police” Breezango. I love these guys, their vignettes and how they have gotten so popular since Southpaw Regional Wrestling aired. It also helps when you have John Cena endorsing you as well. Ironically enough it was the only match that ended cleanly on tonight’s pay per view. I’d love to see The Fashion Police get those tag team titles in the near future. The Main Event was the annual Money in the Bank Ladder Match between Baron Corbin, Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler, AJ Styles, Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura. Hell the match couldn’t even start of cleanly because Corbin attacked Nakamura during his entrance. Even though I didn’t care for the start of the match I will state that this match saved the pay-per-view with it’s shear intensity. There were times that any of the competitors could have won this match but in the end it was Baron Corbin who now holds the briefcase and will probably end up winning the WWE Championship.

I will say I am very disappointed with Smackdown’s effort tonight. I am going to give it a 4.5 out of 10 due to the lack of effort, creativity and the fact that there wasn’t anything shocking that happened. You had every match except one end in some controversial decision that left a lot of unanswered questions. For this month I have to say that Raw’s Extreme Rules beat Smackdown’s Money in the Bank. I hope Smackdown can pull it together for Battleground in July. Just the name alone should be better then Raw’s Great Balls of Fire but right now I am having my doubts. For now we wait and see when Carmella and Baron Corbin cash-in. Hopefully it will be more creative then what use to be a pretty memorable pay-per-view. I am cashing out in hopes of a better show next month.
