Rampage vs. Rashad: The Fight of the Year at UFC 114
This Saturday night, two men who have been pretty dominant in the Light-Heavyweight division are finally squaring off in the octagon at UFC 114. It’s been a long road for both men and it all started on March 7, 2009 when Rampage defeated Rashad Evans teammate Keith Jardine. Rashad got into the octagon and the trash talking began and you could just sense the hatred between both men.
The tension carried over on the Ultimate Fighter tapings that June. Rashad pretty much dominated Rampage from a coaching standpoint. What’s funny, is everyone watched to see what Kimbo Slice was going to do but the main focus of the show was watching Rashad and Rampage trash talk each other the entire time. Rampage’s team lost the first seven fights but he didn’t lose prank war. He pulled a couple pranks on Team Rashad that were memorable.
After retiring, being in a movie and returning again Rampage Jackson is training harder then he ever has for this fight. He is apart of Wolfslair MMA Academy which is out of England. The academy also features Michael Bisping and Cheick Kongo. Rampage has beaten some of the best including Wanderlei Silva, Chuck Liddell, Dan Henderson, and Kevin Randleman.
Rashad Evans is no slouch either. He is also a former Light Heavyweight Champion, who has beaten some of the best including Forrest Griffin, Chuck Liddell, Stephan Bonnar, Sam Hoger, and Michael Bisping. Rashad trains out of Jackson’s Submission Fighting. He trains with fighters such as Georges St-Pierre, Nate Marquardt, Kenny Florian, Shane Carwin, Keith Jardine, Andrei Arlovski, Brendan Schaub, and James McSweeney.
I really have no prediction for this fight but I would say Rashad has the better training team but Rampage wants to prove he is not a quitter and is not a joke. Either way it’s going to be a great fight. Other fights on the card include:
Middleweight bout: Michael Bisping vs. Dan Miller
Heavyweight bout: Todd Duffee vs. Mike Russow
Light Heavyweight bout: Antônio Rogério Nogueira vs. Jason Brilz
Welterweight bout: Diego Sanchez vs. John Hathaway
