Will shutting down ECW hurt WWE?
As ECW champion Christian pointed out on Monday, every star on ECW will either be put on Raw or Smackdown. That means twenty people will be swiched over. This includes two commentators, one General Manager and one ring announcer. One of two things are going to happen. Either Raw and Smackdown will both be three hours long or there will be a lot of stars that will be released. Consequently, if stars are released they will most likely go to TNA. There won’t be an ECW championship, and hopefuly the Abraham Washington show will be gone as well.
I am glad the name ECW is being dropped but not the show on Tuesday nights. Using the name ECW was an insult to everything Paul Heyman created in the 1990’s. ECW used to stand for much more than what WWE turned it into. I think the group of stars on Tuesday nights were working well together and I am going to miss the wrestling I saw on Tuesday Nights. In the long run I think WWE is going to be hurt by getting rid of Tuesday nights ECW.
ECW will be replaced with WWE: NXT, the next generation of wrestling. I have no idea what NXT will be about. Many people are saying that it will be like the old reality show WWE: Tough Enough. Others are saying it will revolve WWE’s developmental company Florida Championship Wrestling.
There are many second and third generation stars in FCW. Hennig, DiBiase, Steamboat, Rotunda, and Windham being just a few. They could draw veiwers because of their family’s legacies. Tune in on February twenty-third to see the new NXT on SYFY.
Will NXT be sucessful or will it fail? Stay tuned to find out.
