Review of Extreme Midget Wrestling at 20 Monroe Live
I’ve seen WCW Nitro, WWE Monday Night Raw and WWE Smackdown all come to Grand Rapids but at 20 Monroe Live they presented Extreme Midget Wrestling. The new venue which opened up in February 2017 has been a success so far. They have brought in concerts, comedians and now the first live action show of it’s kind the in the venue. The venue itself is perfect for concerts and events such as this. It is directly connected to The B.O.B. which makes it convenient if you want eat and drink before or after the show. The venue has multiple bar stations and TV’s so you don’t miss any of the action going on. The staff at 20 Monroe Live was very friendly and welcoming which is a great way to make sure people come back. The only downside to holding a pro wrestling show inside the venue is that if you’re not up against the barricade it can be very hard to see the action. Fortunately if you don’t feel like standing they have a phenomenal balcony that wraps all the way around the venue which also makes for a nice view. Before I begin my thoughts about the show here are the results of the show that took place on March 22nd, 2017:
-Little Patty McGregor defeated Skinny Timmy
-King Midget defeated Little Pecker
-Skinny Timmy defeated Little Bam Bam
-Little Outlaw defeated Little Nasty Boy
-Little Outlaw won a 8 Man Battle Royal
The only thing I would change about this show is that there should be a disclaimer when going to these shows. I believe the you need to be 18 years of age to attend the shows. These shows are not for children and have some vulgarity to them. With that being said I thought the show was absolutely awesome. My two favorite wrestlers on the show were Little Nasty Boy and King Midget. They made the show a lot of fun and had some impressive moves in the ring that left the crowd in awe. These men put their bodies on the line just like the other promotions you see on TV. They work just as hard and are just as passionate as WWE, Ring of Honor or any other wrestling company out there. I also enjoyed that they had music playing during the matches because it almost seemed like the music they played went with how the match was going. I thought using the music to tell the story in a match was an awesome concept. They used weapons, they fought dirty and went all out to put on a great show for the fans in attendance.
I think it’s great that these men are pursuing their dreams. Some people saying that they are being exploited or being used and abused due to their size. Just from talking to a couple of the performers that couldn’t be further from the truth. They love what they do and no one forces them to do it. Midget Wrestling has been around for a long time. It’s not just something that happen overnight. In the past even a prestigious company like WWE has used midget wrestlers for storylines and matches. Look back to Hornswoggle and El Torito in WWE. They had TLC match on a pay-per-view once. It’s not about the size of the person performing. It’s about the heart and desire they have to perform and put their bodies on the line to entertain the people. If you’re a fan wrestling, especially the hardcore style of wrestling this type of show is for you. I would encourage you to go to a show and have some fun.
